My
artwork is informed by personal history and nostalgic moments
that are pivotal in my life and transcend metaphorically to the
human cycle of life, which is universal. Uncovering history allows
for reflection and contemplation, a rediscovering of what makes
up our identity.
Familiar
pictures and sculpted objects are often used as representations
of my own personal experiences, and become a catalyst for a journey
back into ones own past. Texture and color are also an important
part of my visual language. It has the potential to reveal, conceptually,
that which cannot be seen through the image itself. A heavily
worn and textured surface suggests history and a passage of time.
Conversely, an organically smooth, white, translucent surface
indicates a sense of absence, loss, the insubstantial and the
ephemeral.
